Lexicon and Sample Input

Each word and idiom in AutoMathic's built-in vocabulary is indexed alphabetically below.  Each entry is followed by a brief definition or translation, then a representative example of its use.  These examples should be used to suggest possible ways to communicate with AutoMathic.

The examples were chosen to demonstrate not only AutoMathic's vocabulary, but also a wide range of its grammar and default knowledge.  By seeing examples of its language in an understandable context, the user should begin to learn AutoMathic's "dialect" of English in the same way they might learn a foreign language by being immersed in it.

Words not in AutoMathic's built-in vocabulary may also be used!  As AutoMathic reads its input, it identifies noun phrases by seeing what remains when numbers, operators, and other function words (such as the words and idioms in this lexicon) have been identified and processed.  Unrecognized words and phrases will almost always be interpreted as noun phrases to be represented by a variable.

Although the lexicon is organized alphabetically to facilitate lookups, AutoMathic does not apply its linguistic transformations and substitutions in this order...  It applies more-specific substitutions before more-general ones so that special cases get handled before general cases.  For example, "FEWER THAN" would take precedence over "FEWER".  Keep this in mind, especially when looking for definitions or example usage of individual words or short word combinations...  The context of their actual usage may be as part of a longer, idiomatic special case (or special input form) that has a very different meaning.

Also, the examples show the entries in all capital letters only to help them stand out...  In actual use, AutoMathic will recognize upper, lower, and mixed-case versions of these words.  For example,"INHG" would also match its more common forms "inHg", "inHG", "InHg", "InHG", etc.
